Some scholars raised some doubts about Luther and how this was disrupting the peace. Martin Luther soon was able to spread his ideas rapidly due to the printing press. Now people started to listen to Martin Luther and what he had to say. Luther's new criticism started backlash toward the church throughout northern Europe and directly sparked the religious reform movement that came to be known as the Protestant Reformation. This resulted in the split between the Catholics and Protestants in Christianity.

Martin Luther then wrote the “95 Theses”, or “Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences”. This list was nailed on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, initiating the Protestant Reformation. However, Luther was not the only reformer. John Calvin agreed with Martin Luther, but believed that the church should be simple, removed of all icons, and also a stricter lifestyle.

His paper spoke of how the Bible should be the main guide for Christians and that faith rather than good deeds was the way to Heaven. In his life he became a monk and a professor at the University of Wittenberg, Germany. Luther did some Catholic teaching and he “...became stressed that both faith and good works were needed to gain personal salvation” (page 173). He became stressed because human beings were powerless in his eyes and the eyes of God. “On October 31, 1517, Luther, who was greatly angered by the Church’s practices, sent a list of Ninety-five Theses to his church superiors, especially the local bishop” (page 173).
Martin Luther, a German professor and monk, made a large impact on society in the fifteen hundreds. His new ideas of Christianity changed the concept of how religion was viewed and practiced in the 16th century. Within his Ninety-five Theses, he questioned the authority of the Roman Catholic Church and brought to light the corruption surrounding the church while stating how Christianity should be practiced in different ways rather than what is being taught. It is important to understand his stances on religion to explain how different groups reacted to his ideas. While some parts of Europe accepted his ideologies into practice, others reject Luther for many different reasons.
Theses challenged the Church and created much turmoil during the Protestant Reformation. The 95 Theses was a way to challenge the church and spread a way to better the Roman Catholic Church at least in his opinion.
Martin Luther is trying to fix the Catholic Church, but instead of fixing it he should just leave it and make a new church of his own. The church isn’t listening to him and they aren’t going to. The church may even accuse him as a heretic and kill him. All he needs to do is print the 95 Theses and get someone to spread it around so he can get some followers for the church.

By questioning the sale of indulgences and arguing that the pope does not have complete authority over forgiveness of sins and, to a larger extent, salvation, Luther established a precedent for the word of the Church to be called into question rather than it having absolute authority. Given that Luther opens his 95 Theses with “out of love and concern for the truth,” it is clear that his intentions are not necessarily to completely undermine the authority of the Catholic Church, but rather to open a dialogue between the Catholic Church and its faithful on what is actually true in regards to God. The collective judgment of the Catholic community, particularly those who did not have positions of power in the Church, would then have a much greater effect on the direction in which the Catholic Church took than it would have before Luther’s 95 Theses.
Martin Luther was a very important figure in Western history and for the Protestant Reformation. He argues that many people think that Christian faith is an easy thing, they say this because they have not had the chance to experienced or make proof of it. People have to understand that Martin Luther was not opposed to Christianity, he was just criticizing some of the things that he thought they did wrong. He also talks about the importance of faith, trustworthiness and salvation in Christianity. The importance of salvation is what encourages other Christians to keep worshiping God and having faith.
