In the world of today it would be considered unusual to not see Presidents or Presidential candidates on television rather for press conferences, campaigns, debates, following them around and seeing them interact with others and even their families. However prior to the Television Age those aspects were not intertwined into the culture of today. Running for office during the Television Age was considered to have been an emerging concern and that was an high effort. During the election and race for presidency with Eisenhower and Kennedy years, again the significant and advancement of television rose, with both using the platform to create and get a certain image across, one was able to use the medium and propel it further.
Eisenhower was surprisingly the first to to break-ground in the field of political representation, and did use the advances that television was able to bring this sort of attention to his campaign and image. During his time he used short spot commercial and had even used television for speeches-including his 1961 farewell address.
However, though he was not the first to use the platform of television, Kennedy however was the first president to really make it his own, and is considered to be the first president to master the medium. The way he used the new advances of television, interacted with reporters, the way he looked (physical features, clothing, styled hair) put him in other league that resonated with the American audience.
