In April 2015, I had the opportunity to fly across and country and tour University of Wisconsin-Madison. As a child, I had always been told stories about my Grandpa’s time studying at Wisconsin nearly 50 years ago. When I arrived on campus, I quickly discovered why my family had praised it so highly. Wisconsin has an involved student body and world-renowned professors, but also happens to have a beautiful campus and be located in Madison, an ideal college town. One thing that has attracted me to Wisconsin is the variety of history classes available to the undergraduate population. After taking both AP United States History and AP World History in high school, I have learned that I find studying the history of a variety of places and time periods very intriguing. The Merle Curti Lecture Series, three public lectures over three consecutive days, would give me the opportunity to hear historians speak and learn about their current and past research. Since all three lectures explore the same overarching theme, I will be able to gain a more nuanced understanding on the topic by hearing multiple perspectives. Another exciting academic opportunity for History students, is Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society. Not only would this give me a chance to interact with history students throughout the country, but they sponsor events on campus as well, such as behind the scene tours of the historical society. Also, during my time at Wisconsin, I would publish my work in the Archive: A Journal of Undergraduate History. This would be a perfect platform for me to learn about my peers’ studies, as well as share my own personal research and historical
