Most Americans are concerned about their health care and the “Universal Healthcare” movement sounds like an easy solution for any issue the current healthcare system may have. But, the more Americans understand the undeniable costs of government-run health care including, loss of private coverage, fewer health care providers, long waiting lines, and poor patient care, the less intrigue it has.

But the strongest energy and enthusiasm is found among those supporting “Medicare for All” legislation, a suggestion for total government control over our health care. In light of these developments, The Heritage Foundation hosted a renowned panel of national experts and policy specialists to speak on the topic of how healthcare will affect doctors, patients, and taxpayers. All of the panelists outline many reasons why Universal Healthcare would not be a positive integrating into the United States Healthcare system. The panelists explained, “The government promises free, quality health care for everyone, but the unlimited demand for free care results in reduced access for many. Because there are so many citizens that are unable to obtain health coverage whether is be through their employer, through the state, or for financial reasons, Universal Health coverage might solve all of their problems. Alison Galvani, the author of “Universal Healthcare as Pandemic Preparedness: The Lives and Costs That Could Have Been Saved during the COVID-19 Pandemic”, gives us an insight of those Americans who are in need of Universal Health coverage. Alison states, “In addition to those without insurance, another 45.3 million adults are underinsured, burdened by copays and deductibles that are not affordable relative to their salary. Underinsured Americans often forgo healthcare that they require, thereby increasing their risks of mortality. Consequently, our estimates are conservative with regard to the life-saving benefits of comprehensive universal healthcare that eliminates all costs to the patient.” Where Alison’s point in completely valid, eliminating all costs to the patient can greatly and rapidly decimate the US goverment economy.
