In Macbeth the king was killed in order for Macbeth to gain kingship rather than waiting on fate. It can be argued from both sides whether it was Macbeth’s fault or Lady Macbeth’s fault. There is evidence from both sides that must be addressed before a conclusion is made on who should be at fault. Macbeth is in a state of disbelief when he first finds out about his chance as king. He does not know whether or not he should belief the supernatural witches and if they are just trying to set him up for failure. At first he believes that he shouldn’t tamper with what fate has in store for him and his imminent future. (Act 1, Scene 3, Line 143-144) When Lady Macbeth catches wind of Macbeth’s possible promotion it strikes a yearn for power deep within her and she begins to take control. (1, 5, 68) you can clearly see all throughout scene 7 Macbeth is trying to justify why the king should not be killed and Lady Macbeth keeps telling him it will make him happy and he just needs to do it. As he listened to what Lady Macbeth had to say about it throughout scene 5 he allowed it to get to him. He began with good intentions but forcing his way into kingship just sounded way more enticing. As he continued to try and convince himself that killing the king was a bad idea he still did it. He made the decision to listen to Lady Macbeth and he made the decision to kill the king. Even all the way through scenes 6 and 7 you can see him attempting to find justification for why they should not kill the king. He said he was a good man and did not deserve this and while he said all this he knew down inside that his power crave was going to win in the end. We can see here how the king’s death has the potential to be Macbeth’s
