When discussing ethical behavioral CAM treatment all clinicians need to remember that treatment is all about what is in the best interest of the client. First when discussing professions such as psychologists they are in a position to treat the patient, educate the patient about CAM, observe the patient and keep open communication with the primary care physicians. They are also in a position to determine if and when CAM is needed in a clients treatment and when to refer patients to CAM practitioners. However under the APA code of ethics when referring to CAM treatment psychologist should remember things such as Beneficence and nonmaleficence, fidelity and responsibility, Integrity, Justice and respect for people’s rights and dignity. First with Beneficence and nonmaleficence the psychologist should not subject a client to unnecessary or ineffective treatment. The psychologist should be aware of their limitations. For example if a psychologist uses CAM in their personal life they should not feel that they are competent to provide that form of CAM to clients. …show more content…

However with several of these treatment modalities, administering these treatments to current psychotherapy clients may constitute an inappropriate multiple relationship and violate boundary violation. The psychologist must remember to discuss different CAM modalities with clients they will need to discuss a variety of CAM modalities that are support by accurate scientific literature. Third, fidelity and responsibility meaning when a psychologist makes a referral to a CAM practitioner to provide treatment complementary to the psychological treatment it will be beneficial to the client to collaborate this care at times to work collaboratively with the CAM
