Ethical Decisions In Kurt Wise's Devotional Biology

In Kurt Wise’s book Devotional Biology, he states, “…we have a responsibility to…guard and keep the creation He gave us…” (page 9). Furthermore, Dr. Wise goes on to say that, “through biology we can make better ethical decisions.” (page 27). Moreover, we are told, “…to do what is right – to make the decisions that God would make.” We are told to look out for the best in creation and understand how to protect them. In fact, Scripture tells us that we are to have dominion over the fish of the sea, birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves (Genesis 1:28).

Furthermore, when God created man we see that He had the intention of man to have dominion over every “creeping thing” (Genesis 1:26). We know that we are obviously called to preserve animals and their life’s. Dr. Wise further states that we are called to save life and not take it (page 47). I can’t help but think about man’s sinful nature, and the horrendous evils that have happened in the world such as violence or shootings. If a criminal was doing evil, and going around shooting people, should they still live? Often time’s police officers catch the criminal and then sentence them up for a life time, or even at times give them the death penalty, so that they don’t continue doing those horrendous acts. However, one can argue that one is taking another person’s life. Whereas, others might say, they are protecting society from further shootings occurring. If the grey wolf, is a “protected” animal, but is going around killing farm animals. Should they be protected? I mean we are called to have dominion and guard animals as believers. Perhaps what could be done is just keep the grey wolf away from far animals, that way the death of farm animals won’t occur as
