Unethical Dilemmas: Making Bad Choices 101 Life often throws out interesting dilemmas, some that are more difficult to solve than others. There’s the old phrase, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” but what if the lemonade has a 50% chance of causing harm to a group of people who consume them? On the other hand, what if there is also the opportunity to make billions of dollars that could be used help other people? Are the choices made in life dilemmas ever for the greater good or the greater greed? It is hard to determine who is good and who is evil, especially when there are billions of people who have their own unique moral codes. Whether it is forcing people to work in deplorable conditions for scant pay or endangering lives, big business has always damaged the lives of the world. In“The Corporation,” the grey areas of business practices are explored and for corporations such as “Nike,” the findings are gruesome. The film serves a commentary on unethical business practices such as child labor, environmental destruction, and hazardous product marketing, all utilized by by modern corporations today. Throughout the film, ethical dilemmas are explored and the effects of big business on consumer masses are questioned, thus making corporations seem even more like the psychopaths described in “The Corporation”. Rather than look at corporations as a whole, “The Insider” examines the reasons why specific members of a company make the ethical/unethical decisions they do. Early on in the film, the viewer is shown a scene in which Wiggand is forced by Brown and Williamson executives to sign a confidentiality agreement that prohibits him from disclosing his research outside of the company. While Wiggand’s submission to corporate executive’s demand causes harm to billions of cigarette smokers across the world, he is still shown to be a sympathetic character through the way he provides for his
