When reading the text “The Scorch Trials” by James Dashner, I combined the use of many reading strategies, For example, I used background knowledge, making connections, inferring, predicting, and questioning. Firstly, based on my background knowledge it isn’t a good idea to trust someone who you just met. This is because you don’t know if their motives are pure or not. While I was thinking about this, I remembered Officer Toni telling us two years ago about how many kids got in trouble when they trusted someone they didn’t know. My connection led me back to the book and the author (James Dashner) describing how Thomas felt when Jorge entered, “Thomas felt a belt of tension cinch inside him” (page 145).
Eric Foner’s “The Fiery Trial” is like no other book written of one of the most influential figures of American history paired with one of the most popular issues of American history, Abraham Lincoln and slavery. Foner deliberately strays away from the commonly written biography of Lincoln"s regular life by choosing to follow the path of his political career instead. By taking onhat would seem to be an obvious topic, Lincoln and slavery, and manages to cast new light on it. . This is a wise move since Lincoln was a politician to the core.
Slowly Thomas starts to learn the truth of what is going on in the world and why he is dealing with the hardships he has been dealing with. The book has trouble with the way it is planned out. With predictable outcomes, and bits of the story that didn’t really lead to anything. The book is supposed to be confusing, and it is, but in all the wrong ways.

The Crucible written by Arthur Miller is a play that expresses the life of the Puritans within Salem, Massachusetts around 1692. The Puritans had a very strict sort of lifestyle that was influenced by their religious views. This caused a theocracy-based town that had no tolerance for witches or God’s enemy -- Satan. When people were accused of being a witch, hysteria would plague the town; many innocent lives would be taken in attempts to ‘cleanse’ the town of any sign of the Devil. Arthur Miller had the Puritan way of life (and their belief system) extremely accurately; the play connects extremely well to what actually happens.

Within this aspect is shown the dismal repetition of rejection and being an outcast. Throughout the story, Abner derives an almost joyful mindset to the dismay of others. The cumulative outcome of this ethos is displayed during the duration of this narrative and the repercussions are starkly illustrated. The first manifestation eluding to Abner being an outcast is the whisper of “Barn burner” after the conclusion of the first trial (259).

Roger Chillingworth, in effort to dismantle Dimmesdale’s life, has continuously lost social wealth for the seven revengeful years. Most importantly, he put incredible concentration on revenge that he even lost his once-beloved wife. In fact, Chillingworth not only lost the love of Hester, but also gained hatred from Hester. In the end, Roger Chillingworth is worth nothing more than a social outcast who lost true and peaceful relationships with people, and even obtained hatred from his own wife. Through this allegory, Hawthorne teaches his readers that revengeful purpose in life can drive oneself out of the healthy social life.

However, his true morals are revealed when the narrator shows signs of guilt like “My head ached, and I fancied a ringing in my ears.” The narrator’s transition from superiority to guilt represents the reality that the acknowledgement of wrongdoings can either be done consciously or unconsciously, and that the latter has considerable negative
