[Focused Discussion] Ethics of social networking Most users of social networking sites and social media are not fully aware of the ethical and social issues or concerns that arise from the use of these media. Today, these issues are of upmost importance as they affect our social and cultural life as we embrace this new form of communication and source of information.

Let us first look at some of the Ethical and Social Issues that we see today that are created in the social network media.

Ethical Issues:
• Integrity: The world sees an organizations commitment and ethical practices, governed by what is being posted by the organization and its representatives (eg: employees, members etc) on social media. There are times when a post is made …show more content…

This can create social issues that may lead to communal problems, if the issue deals with one’s religion, race or communities.
• Cyber Bullying, Stalking, harassment: This is something that has become common on social media. Negative posts against a person or ganging up on a person to demoralize are part of cyber bullying. This is indeed a social issue that this affects the mental health of the person involved. This may also change the way society views the person reading the posts.
• Cyber Criminals: The use of social media by criminals has become a real social issue. The use of social media for selling illegal goods, services etc has been on the rise. Cyber Criminals are also using the social media to get personal information about the users which may be used to break into the user accounts to steal critical personal data that may be used for criminal activities.
