Calcium is a mineral that is important for the production of bones and muscles. It is important for pregnant women to consume enough calcium to build a baby’s bones and teeth and if the necessary requirements are not met, calcium is given to the baby by drawing the mineral from the mother’s bones. Foods in which one can find the mineral calcium are yogurt, milk, cheese, sardines or salmon with bones, some leafy greens (kale, bok choy), and calcium-fortified juices and foods.

Lastly, they strongly demonstrate their opposition by not spending their money on products that contribute to sustaining the animal agriculture industry. In other words, products that are not tested on animals or have anything to do with the help of animals. Vegans concerned about their own health are interested in the result of plant-based diets reducing the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, cancer or premature death. Some choose this lifestyle to avoid the side effects that are linked to antibiotics and hormones used in modern animal farming. The last reason is to help people shed the extra amount of body fat that is keeping them at an unhealthy weight. Environmentally concerned vegans avoid all animal products because of the environmental impact of animal agriculture. Animal products require more resources and, in turn, cause higher greenhouse emissions compared to plant-based options. Animal agriculture is a water-intensive process, meaning that more water is needed to produce the animal products.
