For the ethical vignette paper, the main topic of discussion will be revolved around the issues of boundaries and having a dual relationship with clients. First, the discussion will start off by talking about the video presentation by Dr. Philip Hemphill who gave a lecture on the issues of boundaries and multiple relationships between a therapist and a client. For individuals that plan on becoming therapists or counselors, it’s important that the ethical guidelines are followed at all times. Now only will the code of ethics based on boundaries and multiple relationships will be discussed, the discussion of counselors or therapists following their state laws and regulations will be mentioned as well. Another slippery slope situation would be intense attraction where a therapist would take care of their appearance before a client comes in which also leads to having inappropriate unethical romantic or sexual relationships. This will also be violating clinical norms because one of the things that will likely happen during the inappropriate relationship between the therapist and the client is that the therapist will make the staff leave early to spend more time with the client (Hemphill, 2015). Also, the therapist may end up offering free care to the patient along with spending more time with each other outside of the office such as engaging in fun activities or talking to one another on the phone.
