Ethnographic Exercise 2
The internet labels social media as the websites through which users get involve in social networking by distributing contents and generating accounts. Social Media allows people to have extra connectivity throughout the world. This internet also made it easier to get a hold of people through social networks. The social community that would be looked into is called WhatsApp. This social platform is not like other known social media communities like Facebook, reddit, or twitter. As a result increasing the amount of communications people have every day and the speed at which they have them. This has left people sensing an established responsibility to stay linked with the world. Each group have different codes in which they communicate with one another. In communicating over this social media many vocabulary meanings have been altered as a result not having the same meaning has we are used to. WhatsApp platform has altered the way the words like pin, pinning and pinned which people are use too. These words are known to be descriptive of a real pin like an office pin with which we are able to pin papers to a board. However here on WhatsApp pinning is described as a board that is digital. And when people communicate they say things like, “Check my pin out,” or something like “while I was having my coffee this morning I was pinning.” Also another thing I observed is that new languages and vocabularies are created as a means of …show more content…
Some of the common phrases used like “laughing out loud”, “Busy at the Moment” are rapidly reformed to “LOL” or “BATM.” These short abbreviations move stealthily up in everyday language proving that sometimes words, when put together, can make you “LYBO” or laugh you butt out. As a result of these verb-phrases abbreviations it has been easy to cut down long words and characters used in effectively holding a conversation on WhatsApp with great speed. On good thing about WhatsApp is that there is no limit to the number of characters used on the platform unlike Tweeter; So on WhatsApp anyone can express themselves well has they wish to. In also communicating on WhatsApp also allow the user to input Emoticons such as ;-) into their conversations which also helps to speed up conversations.
