When reading "Letter from Birmingham Jail" one may notice that Martin Luther King Jr. Used many instances of logos, ethos, pathos, and even Kairos. Martin Luther explains using these methods how black people are treated and why their cause needs to be supported. "When you suddenly find your tongue twisted and your speech stammering as you seek to explain to your six-year-old daughter why she cannot go to the public amusement park that has just been advertised on television, and see the tears welling up in her little eyes." This sentence, which is in the 5th paragraph of the 2nd page, uses pathos. It is intended to evoke a feeling of sadness and get other people to see the perspective of a parent. One would not want to explain the situation to their child and see them cry. Using this connects to people's emotions making them more apt to support the cause. Martin Luther also uses ethos to connect to people's character. He mentions things like "injustice" and "responsible people". He encourages people to not let injustice prevail and be a responsible people. We have gone through all these steps in Birmingham." This uses logos as it shows logical steps to prove they have done what is right. Using logos shows that they know what they are talking about. They are not simply saying words but have a system backed up by it. For example, humans did not believe the earth was round until proof came out that it was true. Even when they were told so it was not widely believed. Simply being told without it being backed up makes you question the reality of it. Adding in logos helps get rid of doubt and uses science and logic to do
