Makeup magazines have been around for years; they have evolved and transformed into what they are today. When designing covers on a magazine, editors are very careful and strategic about what goes on the pages. The discourse community that glamour magazine targets are adults around the age of eighteen to forty nine years of age, as well as people who enjoy reading magazine’s about makeup, fashion, and a little inside to the world of the rich and famous. An important element of Glamour is the use of celebrities on their front cover. There are many magazines that target different types of women as well as their ages, with using the appeal of ethos. The way that Editors create the covers of their magazines highly depends on the generation of women they are trying to attract. When looking for magazines in stores the first thing that we see as consumers are the celebrities that we watch and listen to on a daily basis. You see what they are wearing, how they pose, or if they are smiling or not. In glamour they generate a “Glamour Woman of the Year Awards” where a lucky woman is chosen to be in the cover of their magazine for that month. The way that they are chosen is by the person having done something extraordinary and inspirational. The title of 'Glamour' is bold and takes up the whole top of the front cover for each magazine that is appealing to pathos giving its audience a wow factor. The typography is striking and sophisticated, reflecting on the genre of the magazine: fashion. The editors of glamour tend to use a lot of black and pink for their covers, making it more girly, but still keeping in line with their intended audience and giving a hint sophistication to the whole thing. On one of the magazines they put, “336 badass females,” big and pronounced towards the side of where Zendaya is standing but still smaller than the title. Doing this makes the discourse community draw their eyes to that element, creating curiosity for these badass females, which in response makes the readers open the magazine and start reading it. The designers use a lot of different font sizes to emphasize different article and snippets of the interviews they had with that months celebrities to see if maybe one of them will catch your eye and encourage you to buy it and read it. Editors do this creative attention grabber where they use specific words from the celebrity interview and twist it to make it sound different than what it actually was. One example used is from the Demi Lovato glamour cover, where they put in pink wording “No Boundaries” and then underneath they put “ This will get me in trouble, but..”
