When it comes to professional speakers, Tony Robbins is widely known as one of the best and most effective in terms of getting results. As he would put it, he is “the why guy.” He finds out why you do what you do and then aims to find the best solution to get your desired result. In this speech, he was invited to be a guest speaker at TED, which today is one of the most respected conventions that meets the best of the best in their respected fields, and lets them share with the audience some of the things they have learned over the years. The speech he performed in this talk was titled “Why we do what we do?” The main idea behind his performance is to discuss the invisible forces that motivate our actions as humans.
Tony explains as humans, we approach situations in a certain way that isn’t always aligned with what we believe to be the best or right way of doing so. We say one thing but do another. We believe in an idea, but act in favor of another. We know right from wrong, but tend to have a hard time doing what we know we are supposed to be doing. It is this way of living that brings us as humans so much disappointment and emotional pain while trying to pursuit what he says are the two master lessons. Logos in this case is how Tony attempts to get the audience to be persuaded by his comments. How he gets the audience to take the information he presented, and for it to become something they remember and use for the future. It’s how he uses stats such as how he has fed multi-millions of people through his foundation. He goes through the speech and commands a response from the group by asking them to say “I” if they agree with him. Anytime we hear the audience say this, we can infer that the logos he has presented has led the audience to agree with him on certain topics.
