You think a coach would be someone who would mentor you, help you be the best you, and help you excel in the sport that you love. In the document Happy Valley that was not the case. Happy Valley is a documentary that was directed by Amir Bar-Lev in 2014; giving us the full details on Penn States Coach Jerry Sandusky when he was prosecuted for sexually abusing young kids over a long period of time leading up to his trial in 2011. Happy Valley is such a great documentary because throughout the movie it shows Ethos, Logos, Pathos, and Kairos that gets the views to feel the emotion and be able to see the facts. The thing this documentary had was Kairos. This documentary was about Penn States head coach. Penn State is a well-known school around …show more content…
They used this through Sandusky’s son Matt talking, the Penn State student Tyler, Joe Paterno and the General Attorney of the town. Matt Sandusky got interviewed and told us about the back history of how he got to know Jerry. Matt stated “I went to the mid-summer camp. That’s where I first saw and met him”. (Happy Valley 08:20) and how Jerry really helped him in his time of need but also how he felt about the case. Now Tyler the Penn State student told us more about Joe Paterno and how he felt when he was fired and how the school reacted. He mentioned he felt devastated he stated “I don’t think this was unwarranted. You know, this man was treated so badly”. (Happy Valley 28:17) Then there was the General Attorney, which told us about the case and what was going on and what was happening with the trial. At the end of the documentary, he adds how Joe Paterno and the other people that were around when everything started to begin should have protected those kids more. They could have done more than what they had done. Now some of them were left with nothing. (Happy Valley 1:20) All of these people were credible sources because they either knew Sandusky personally, worked on the case involving Sandusky, or was at the school during that time. Now there were some logos in this film but not really a lot. During this film, there was just a lot of hearsay. It was just based off what one person had to say. There …show more content…
They did a great job on putting so much of it into the movie. I think it was what drew people. They showed pathos throughout the whole movie, with Matt telling us about his past life and how Sandusky came in and helped him find a better home then Joe Paterno getting fired. People were very upset when Paterno got fired the school even started a protest to get him back but then 3 months after he got fired he passed away from cancer. When he had passed they made a statue for him and put all his winning games on plaques behind him then later on taking the whole thing down. What I think what got people the most was them showing the little boy Sandusky had taken advantage of, that really made people feel emotion by seeing how little the boys were and they didn’t know what was really going on. The last big thing that stood out was the mural. It had some emotion drawn towards it because when Sandusky went the trial the painter completely painted over him like he was never there to begin with. Then after Paterno had died the painter drew a halo over him but once things started turning on Paterno and his name started to be taken off things, he removed the halo and later on put a white rose in his hand. The painter mentioned he had lost a lot of sleep over that painting. He finally took off the halo from Joe Paterno because after everything that has happened it had to be done. (Happy Valley 1:01) There was a lot more pathos in the movie but
