Brian Marque Bentley was interviewed on Monday, April 11, 2016, at approximately 3:07 p.m., at his residence located at 813 Bond Street in Edenton, North Carolina, by North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) Special Agent (SA) J. A. Bode. SA R. C. Cox was also present during the interview. Bentley was interviewed in reference to the homicide of Kelvin Eugene Singleton. Bentley was in the custody of the Chowan County Sheriff’s Office at the detention center with Singleton. Bentley stated he has known Singleton for approximately 25 years. Bentley used to live in the same projects as Singleton. Bentley said he did not hear of Singleton being involved with guns and/or narcotics. Bentley was recently in the Chowan County Detention Center with Singleton and was released 2 weeks before Singleton escaped from the facility. Bentley spent approximately 60 days in the detention center. Bentley was in the same block of the detention as Singleton. Bentley advised he heard nothing about the Singleton’s escape beside what he saw on the news. Bentley stated he heard Singleton was found deceased on the side of the road. Bentley heard when Singleton was found he was naked and had a tongue on his chest. Bentley also heard Singleton’s head had still not been found. Bentley heard this information from Facebook, people in the area talking, and from people telling Singleton’s sister and family. Bentley had not talked to Singleton’s sister. Bentley also heard Singleton was with a group of Mexican individuals. Bentley had no idea why Singleton would associate with Mexicans. Bentley stated he did not know any Hispanics individuals who would kill Singleton. Bentley said Singleton was in Edenton on the run from Charlotte before he was placed in custody.
