Eulogy For Father

“I’ve been fired.” The words fall out of my father’s quivering mouth. The rest of us, utterly in shock, question “why” and “how could this happen”. Of course, no one had an answer.

Crying, I glimpsed more from my mother in the following days than I could ever remember. She wept for her family. My parents were ashamed; they couldn’t provide for their family. “We’re going to lose the house,” I heard them sob. “We’ll fight through this together, no matter what happens,” everyone reassured one another. And sure enough, we did.

Of course, my father searched for a new job that could sustain us for weeks, but to no avail. My family had begun to lose hope, even with the support we were receiving from the rest of the community. We found hope in one another though, leaning on each other for …show more content…

His passion was helping the community. Wanting to put all this passion into action, he explored every church in the area for a job. Sadly, at the time, no one had an opening. Because of this, my father became afraid that he would need to acquire another job he hated, so that he could provide for his family. I knew he would do anything for us, caring so much about his family’s well-being.

Finally, after asking dozens of churches, he finally received a break. The youth pastor at the Delphos United Methodist Church had just retired and they would hire my father full time! He would live his dream and our family would be fine. We were much tighter on money, but he now looked forward to going to work everyday and was so much happier.

I had never been so inspired by another person as when my father lost his job. He showed how much he cared about his family and had an intense passion for us to be happy. For example, he was willing to be miserable everyday and go to a job he hated for us. Seeing this, I decided to make a change in my life. I became a more loving and kind sibling, son, and person in
