Imagine starting over.. No money, food, house, or any of the necessities of life. Starting from “scratch” as they say or even starting with little as just $25. It’s something hardly anyone would want to experience and something people know it’s difficult. Who would think to try it? Both, Chris McCandless and Adam Shepard wanted to take the challenge and prove it is possible. However, he was the only one who was brave enough to take the challenge and prove others wrong. Shepard was known to be very self-motivated and had his mind set to show beyond doubt that anything is possible. For example not being able to find a job, he went to the Fast Company manager and demanded a job. He had told the manager he would work for free and if he did not like him he could release him from working. “Curtis, my man, I don’t want to sit here in front of you and be disrespectful… but I’m pretty much the hardest worker you’re going to find in Charleston” (Shepard, 97). Going to the job, he had a goal and was determined to achieve it. He was committed to getting out of the shelter and to show the American Dream was achievable. Throughout his long journey he kept in touch with them even if he stated different to others. Once he found out his mother’s cancer had returned, he realized it was time to end his journey.
