Before the industrial revolution though Africa was hard to capture and conquer fully, this was due to serval reasons the main reasoning being diseases (conquerors would die from diseases before they could explore far into this content). With the industrial revolution though explorations had better ships to explore up that lead into central Africa, they had better guns to kill Africans with; which made exploration into Africa even easier and soon came the discovery of the cinchona tree that contained quinine that prevented malaria. In time Africa became divided and conquered by serval European nations, which meant that African political power would shift to the nation that conquered them and that the society and people would be treated as slaves to produces a much raw resources for Europeans to sell and make
During the 15th century, the world was caught in the age of exploration. After Columbus, everyone realized that there were still undiscovered land masses that held numerous resources and extreme profit. Due to the fact that the Americas were occupied by Spain and Portugal, much of Europe turned its eyes to Africa. Consequently, Africa was a huge land mass that was just waiting to be explored, especially since Portugal hadn’t gone beyond the outer edge. The reasons for European imperialism in Africa were due to the want for more resources to boost the economy, the advantage of better technology, and a need to establish a position of power.
The main reason the Europeans imperialized Africa were their cultural and social beliefs in ethnocentrism. They believed “[the natives] needed European help, reform, or civilization” (Document K). The Europeans considered the Africans savages
Colonization dbq In colonial America the 13 colonies were not united as they are today they each had their own ideas about religion, politics, and society. Many people came to America to find religious freedom, but they were not as opened minded as some people may think. Each region had its own religion who tended to keep to each other and outside religions were frowned upon. However Maryland’s act of toleration says that no form of Christianity shall be in any way troubled (doc1).
Those reasons are the incredible amount of natural resources, the need to increase production of new products, and the amazing economical payout. Though these are the main reasons, greed is a factor that should not be forgotten. Africa was given the wonderful gift of useful natural resources. The only unfortunate part for the Africans was that after seeing the insane amount of money that King Leopold II took on, the other European nations wanted to expand their economies and also make more money. Document D in the “Mini Q” packet also titled, “Selected African Colonies and Their Exports” shows that Africa was loaded with natural resources that would increase not only the country's wealth but the income of the entrepreneurs and the production companies.
Founded in document D African colonies and their exports. Economic factors were more of a driving force behind imperialism since the imperialists were in search of natural resources for improving technology and their national pride. The Europeans went to Africa because of their many resources and their quantities of gold, fur, and yarn all superior resources for the Europeans. Africa had dealt with European
In order to produce goods,“factories in Europe required raw materials to be manufactured into marketable products.” As a result, they sought both a source for new materials (like rubber, ivory, gold and diamonds) as well as a marketplace to sell them. (DBQ - document D) They “played a large role in the colonization of Africa”, as Europe wanted to access Africa’s natural resources to produce goods that they could then sell back to Africians for their personal economic
One of the many reasons was that Europeans began to believe that the more territory they obtained control for their colonies, the more power one could obtain it would become more solid it would become seen by the others. Other reasons for the Europeans to desire control over African land included that many of the natural resources could only be found within Africa, examples such as diamonds, gold, and as time moved on, rubber. Providing new markets to surrounding places so that manufactured goods could be sold for larger profit. Europeans had many motivations for imperializing Africa. The main motivations were more than likely shielded, as they tried presenting themselves as philanthropist, within reality they were making Africa a horrible place to live with brutal treatment of the natives as well as multiple physical and emotional tolls for the people of
Many Europeans did not treat the Africans well. Many colonists started colonizing in the New World for three main reasons: God, Gold, and Glory. Colonists met Native Americans there and wanted the Native Americans to work for the them, which led to bad treatment of the Native Americans and also led to slavery. The Industrial Revolution soon started and people needed more natural resources for all the resources being produced. During the 19th Century, many Boers made colonies, land controlled by another country, on the land lended to them by Africans; soon afterward the colonizers started deceiving the African.
The feeling of treading new lands, that is what the first Europeans experienced. When Christopher Columbus returned to Spain is when the age of exploration truly began. The Spanish conquistadors were the first of the European explorers whom came to the Americas. There were four reasons why they decided to start exploring the new world. These reasons include; the willingness to learn, religion, economics, and politics.
When I learned about the New World and its natives, I thought it was amazing. It was a paradise for human beings, and every group of Indians were unique in culture, religion, and social practices. When the British colonization happened, the benefits were huge. And when Columbus talked about their relationship with the natives, it seemed there were no bad effects. But it was too good to be true.
During the 19th century many European explorers began exploring the interior of Africa. As a result many European countries wanted to colonize Africa. There were many reasons for Europeans wanting to imperialize Africa. Some of the driving forces behind European imperialism were economic, nationalism and White Man’s burden.
With the discovery of the New World at the end of the 15th century it marked the beginning of European expansion into the Americas. With the unplanned discovery, it allowed for a new life to emerge, however, for some this meant a new fulfilled life and for the rest that meant destruction and isolation. To describe colonial America, we will focus on the biographies of Junipero Serra, Pocahontas and Catherine Tekawitha. With the discovery of the Americas as well as an improvement in ship technology this allowed many to disembark their home regions and set sail for the New World. These settlers were all hoping to find a passage to the West Indies, hoping to return back home with luxury goods.
Native Americans had been a part of the New World way before the settlers ever made their way to America. One of the larger groups of Native Americans discussed during this time frame was The Iroquois. The Native Americans learned new things from the colonist. They learned new ways of doing things along with the settlers advanced technology that they brought with them. However, all was not always good between the groups.
European leaders then became aware of two things: Africa was contained with natural resources, and a scramble of the riches could begin a war between European nations. At the Berlin Conference in 1885, European Nations claimed parts of the African continent through rule of occupation. Though they did not consider the land claims of Africans, they did agree to specific principles concerning colonization, which included free trade, and improving the moral and material well being of Africans. Before European nations stayed away from the African continent, and now powers such as England, France, and Germany want large amounts of land of Africa. Several reasons European nations began to colonize Africa included political competition and ideological superiority; however, economic profit was the primary driving force to imperialize Africa.
