Some countries felt it was their God given will to expand their empire to rule people that are not civilized and for the resources the country possesses. Just like Hitler thought it was God’s words to have a dominate race, he is to have “faith in the goodness of God” (Hitler, 291), and this was the only thing he needed to justified himself for doing what he did. Many countries felt it was their right to rule over the uncivilized areas of Asia, but most importantly Africa. One race dominating over the over invokes the idea of Social Darwinism as one race has more privileged and higher in the social hierarchy base on the color of their skin. The racism helps diversified the resistance of the colonized people while letting their superiority be seen. Patriotism for one’s country fueled the growing imperial power to compete with others for supremacy The European powers felt little to no compassion or regret when dividing Africa between all the super powers. The ethics and moral evolution of each country developed the framework for the foundation of Social Darwinism for all the imperialistic countries (Versen, 416). This train of thought is especially seen in Africa as each of the European saw the African people as “heathens” that needed to be conquer in the game of God. The Africans were doomed to barbarism and it was due to the ideas of Social Darwinism that is embedded into the minds of every European country (Versen, 418). Almost every part of Africa is claimed to uphold their power and show off. The color of their skin made the African people an inferior race in the eyes of the European. As came the white man’s privilege to go into the world and conquer new land for the country also came the white man’s burden. By having more land granted each country more power towards the other nations, but it became a financial burden to keep a colonial outpost protected and maintained. Europeans sent churches and missionaries to let the African people embrace the arms of God as they are forced upon the religion that is brought unto them. Moral superiority is a stubborn way of thinking, in which one side believes that their beliefs are more justified or moral than the others. Being “white” constructed a rise in power on what they can do when colonizing Africa was not a legal obstacle that they had to overcome (Ponzanesi, 6).
