As defined, euthanasia is the practice of a very ill patient ending his or her life in a painless matter, moreover associated with the terms, assisted suicide or merciful killing. Euthanasia is classified as a voluntary or involuntary act, regarding the proceeding the action with or without consent respectively. In the film, Last Cab to Darwin, why does Rex want to die?
Rex despises to be hospitalised due to a past history of many accounts of being in a hospitalized state, after being diagnosed in with terminal bowel cancer, therefore, he is only left with two options which is to choose whether he wants to live in pain for the rest of his life or die peacefully. Rex is simply fed up with living in pain and agony, hence decides the best option for him is to proceed with assisted suicide. As he relentlessly reminds his doctor that he is sick of living life in a hospital bed, and fully believes that euthanasia is his only way to go.
