Today I will be talking to you about one of many controversial and debated discussions, why Voluntary Euthanasia should be legalised in Australia. Voluntary Euthanasia is the practice of ending an individual’s life at their request allowing patients to die with dignity and peace. Imagine yourself lying in a hospital bed every day, every year, unable to do anything because one move could cause you agonising pain. All you can do is stare up at the same blank, white ceiling of your hospital room. Why live when you are no longer considered a person but a burden of life?

The national audit found that 44 per cent of cases when conscious patients were placed on the pathway to being euthanised, there was no record that the decision had been discussed with them. If a law were to be placed for voluntary Euthanasia this would not have happened because laws are like guidelines and without these guidelines, the practice of euthanasia will be taken advantage of by doctors. Some are concerned that people are going to abuse the use of Euthanasia but the government will ensure that safeguards only choose appropriate candidates to be euthanised. For safeguards to be meaningful and effective, they will have to investigate the patient's mental, physical and economical state and make sure that the patient is suffering from an illness that will only result in death and no medical measure is able to find an effective cure. Proper regulation must also make sure that a patient was receiving good palliative care before a request for euthanasia is
