Adopt dogs, don’t buy them.
Each year, approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized. In that 1.5 million is 670,000 dogs. Pet owners all over the states simply drop off their animals at shelters or let them loose just because they are tired of dealing with them or can't afford to pay for them anymore. While this is happening there are others out buying pets from either breeders or pet shops. What most people don't even realize is that when you buy from a pet store you’re helping raise the rates of euthanization in animals. A lot of people don't even consider going to a local shelter to find a pet because they want a puppy or purebred. What they don't realize is that shelters all over are filled with different dog breeds of all ages. Sadly most of those cute little dogs that you see in the window as you walk by a pet shop are from puppy mills. According to the ASPCA a puppy mill is, "A large-scale commercial dog breeding operation where profit is given priority over the well-being of the dogs." These pups are often extremely neglected and come with many health risks that sprout from people prioritizing money over the health of these animals. Here is what I believe to be the top five best reasons why you should adopt instead of buying your pets and how we can help. First, you'll be saving a life. Almost three and four million dogs and cats are euthanized each year simply because there aren't enough people adopting from shelters. This has lead to gross overpopulation of shelters and euthanized dogs all around the country. The number of euthanized animals would be decreased like crazy if more people would adopt instead of buy their pets.
