1.) During the initial months of the depression, the general belief was that the troubles were cause by the "cut-throat competitions" between businessmen causing many businesses to fail. As a result the Roosevelt administration's first attempt ot deal with the crisis was to mitigate such "cut-throat competitions" with the provisions of the National Industrial Recovery Act of 1933. This act spawned the Nation Recovery Administration (NRA). The NRA was empowered to bring government, industrial corporations, and labor unios together to find ways to get rid of "cut-throat competitions".
Mansa Musa set off on his hajj and traveled thousands of miles through deserts, and strange cities to get to Mecca. Although this was a very religious journey, was this pilgrimage really all for religious purposes? Religion may have been a large motivating factor for this trip, but Mansa Musa did not journey on his hajj just for religious purposes. There were many other motivating factors for why Mansa Musa took this journey. Some motives were to set up better trade for the future, and gain popularity for his kingdom Mali and himself.
Is Asoka a ruthless conqueror or is he a knowledgeable ruler? Asoka is one of the most acknowledged rulers of the Mauryan Empire. He ruled most of India over 2,000 years ago. Although he may be the greatest ruler of the Mauryan Empire, Asoka is still a merciless emperor because he has done many remorseful things that shall not be forgiven such as exterminating thousands of people and he has also conquered many lands to enhance his kingdom. Several individuals have been slaughtered by the hands of Asoka.
During the nineteenth century, Manchester,England was leading in textile manufacturing due to the cotton mill and it being the first industrialized city. The industrial growth increased the population to over 300,000 by a span of 100 years, this new increase was due to working class and immigrants. In document 1, there is a vast growth in the city of Manchester over the span of 100 years. Manchester was given representation in Parliament and the middle-class men received the vote. While the growth of industry was needed in Manchester for better development of modern society, it came with many issues.
Archaeological images that convey Hatshepsut and Thutmose III effectively co-ruling and delegating Pharaonic responsibilities are indicative of their mutually supportive relationship. Hatshepsut acted as a co-regent to her stepson/nephew for at least fifteen years, and it is believed that they shared a peaceful and harmonious relationship. Thutmose III’s mother was of an unacceptably low status, hence allowing him to become a young King under the supervision of his stepmother, Queen Hatshepsut. The Kings eventually shared administrative, religious and military responsibilities, demonstrating that their relationship was cooperative and interdependent. Hence, the desecration and concealment of Hatshepsut’s building activities is not indicative
The british were a force to reckon with, they were the top of the food chain, raining for one-hundred years, destroying powerful nations. A group of farmers, a brewer, and some people who wanted change didn’t seem like they would be any match to the British. A group of people fighting for a cause they believe in is stronger than people fighting for a king. The British brought their own demise by putting tighter and tighter control that led to a revolution in colonial America.
When World War II ended, the United States rejoiced with what they assumed their victory would determine; total peace, the discontinuation of Communism, the return of all the dearly missed soldiers, and greater equality for all, especially in the workplace. Much to the dismay of many citizens at home during the war, these aspirations were not exactly what they expected. In the near short years right after the war, there was much prosperity and many were perfectly content, but in these years, many had difficult times with the changes that occurred after the war. With these rough times came many fears of the conditions of the country, but many of these fears were greatly calmed through the work of the President Eisenhower in the 1950s. In the
APUSH SAQ 1.) The reason that this confederacy was established was to maintain and keep important traditions alive in these 5 later 6 tribes in the state of what is now present day New York. Some of the goals of this confederacy were to, improve trade, strengthen alliances with neighboring tribes against foreign nations, share agricultural techniques, capture land, and improve trade. In terms of how successful they were, overtime some tribes established alliances with European nations causing tension among the confederacy, however this confederacy did improve the alliances between these tribes. Overall in terms of land, they weren’t really successful as we can see now in present day U.S.A 2.)
As the Great War raged on, people began fleeing their war torn homelands. Immigrants flooded into the United States at a breakneck pace. The way of life for all civilians was dramatically altered as their husbands and baby boys were shipped overseas to fight. Immigrants that were thrown into the fray of the developing United States faced the most drastic change to their lives during World War I.
French parenting styles have become a hot topic of conversation since the release of Pamela Druckerman’s book Bringing up Bebe as she compares American parenting styles to those of the French. This blog, by Catherine Crawford was inspired by her French friend and how she approached parenthood. Ms. Crawford was in awe as she watched her friend parent with calm finesse and she decided to incorporate some of those technics with her own unruly children. Here are few examples from Catherine and other parents who stand behind the French way.
There is a saying ‘Rome was not built in a day’; this expresses the idea that great things take time to evolve and grow properly. America is much like Rome in the sense that over time and thanks to the foreign influences America received, it was able to blossom and still continues to grow. Without the intervention of France and England in America’s land and politics during 1795 to 1810, America would not have been able to thrive on the harsh global scale. Specifically, the political, social and economic events of the XYZ Affair, Alien and Sedition Acts, Louisiana Purchase and the despised Embargo of 1807 became turning points which would decide if America was strong enough to survive as a country.
In the 1950’s the cold war had begun. The fear of retaliation from communists was at large. Some Americans believed that communists were amongst them plotting. This lead to a dark time in history when American opportunity became limited for many. Most rights were limited, normal life was disrupted, and the most necessary human right may have been taken.
“No Comprendo” (“I Don’t Understand”) is a newspaper article by Barbara Mujica, a professor of Spanish at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. In this article, which was published in the New York Times, Mujica argues against bilingual education (teaching students in their native language as well as in English). No Comprendo Last spring, my niece phoned me in tears. She was graduating from high school and had to make a decision.
I have chosen to write a review of the movie “I am Sam” because it is a powerful, emotional film about love, the family bonds, and parenting challenges. The main character, Sam, lived in Los Angeles, CA in the 1990s. Sam has the mental capacity of seven years old, he works at Starbucks and has a daughter with a homeless woman who abandoned them after she gave birth to his daughter. Sam is an avid Beatles fan and named his daughter Lucy Diamond after the Beatles song. Sam’s mental impairments are autistic tendencies and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
