They were started to called that by the actor named Jim Crow who was a white man who blacked his face and he danced around and sang about not having a care in the world. The Reconstruction era was the period of time after the civil war after the north triumphed over the south. Things weren’t a smooth transition for the people of the south with many people staying as racists and the creation of hate groups and deadly gangs such as the Ku Klux Klan were rampant after the northern soldiers left the south when reconstruction was over. In the book "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time", Christopher is faced with a lot of obstacles (due to his autism), such as the color yellow, the train station, and loud noises. However, he almost always finds a way to overcome it. The book is written in the point of view of a boy with autism who faces a lot of obstacles but he never gives up and he always overcomes them despite how hard it may be.
“Perseverance isn’t one long race; it is many short races one after the other.” - Walter Elliot. When someone is facing their idea of impossible, they must overcome many small bumps in the road and when they get over that small bump it can make them believe in themselves and make them stronger as a person. But perseverance can be well worth it in the end.
