In the short story “Your Move” by Eve Bunting, a boy named James is in charge of watching his brother Isaac every night while their mother is at work. One night, James decided to take Isaac with him to meet up with the K Bones group. They want James to complete a dangerous task for him to be able to join them. Afterwards, they head home and James and Isaac get in big trouble my their mom. I crafted a claim to portray how James is in the beginning, middle and end of the story. In the beginning, James is trusted by his mom and helps her out by staying home to watch Isaac. In the middle, he is daring and does not obey his mother, but in the end, he felt bad about what he had done, and tried to earn his mother’s trust back. At this point, I couldn’t believe they were ok. When they got home, their mom, and neighbor were waiting for them and they were angry! James and Isaac were not home to knock on the wall to signal to their neighbor that they were ok. Since James had gotten in trouble, he decided not to leave the house anymore, but just to earn back his mom’s trust.
In the end, James decided just to watch Isaac now, and not rebel anymore. His mother did not completely trust him, so he had to knock on the wall every half hour, instead of every hour. When the K Bones offered James and Isaac caps one night, as an invitation to be in the group, but they declined. James wanted to be trusted by his family, and he learned that trying to be in a dumb group is no where near as important as being with his family.
As you can see, James definitely changes throughout the story “Your Move” by Eve Bunting. He changes so much, he’s almost like a different person. James is trustworthy in the beginning, daring in the middle, and tries to gain back trust in the end. I think that even though James did the wrong thing in the middle, he’s still a good
