Don’t call me Ishmael is a book about a 14 year-old teen boy struggling at school and also who hates his name. The book is by award winning author of the running man, Michel Gerard Bauer. The question we’re going to be reviewing the use of power of language through Miss Tarango with Barry and the chair challenge (Game), the Debating finals and Ishmael exposing Barry. Firstly Barry Bagsley is a typical high school bully who feels the need to bother his fellow students just for the fun of it, Barry seams to this for no apparent reason he doesn’t consider the feelings of others and expects to be treated well. Barry the bully didn’t really have specific targets he mainly targeted the helpless or the helpless looking students that didn’t stand up for themselves or the ones that broke the easiest, and these were Ishmael Leseur, Bill kingly, James Scobie. When he first walked into the room he instantly became a target of bullying the reason for this is based on his appearance. He scrunches his lips and twists them onto the side, he also wears glasses. Scobie is smart boy he isn’t like all the other boys he has a back bone the other boys are too afraid to face Barry but he did just that. When he told Barry about not being afraid in front of the whole class and explained the reason Barry didn’t believe he felt threatened and replied with “that’s bad luck, because you’re in danger now whether you want to be or not and if your Mr fearless as you say, just stay right where you are, cause I’m going to count to five and if I’m still looking at your ugly mug, than I’m going to knock it off. Scobie just stood where he was and simply said ‘’ you don’t have to worry about me in that regard’, I have every faith in the schools bullying policy”. This proves that James is far more different compared to Ishmael or the other victims of bullying he is not afraid of
