The boy in the striped pajamas by John Boyne is a heartfelt novel that portrays many life lessons that middle school students can learn. These lessons may include childhood innocence can be a blessing, fear can stop us from doing the right thing things and love is more powerful than hate. There are Numerous life lessons that all middle school students can learn these are three I has chosen. Can childhood innocence be a blessing? A good example of this is shown in chapter ten when Bruno is complaining to Shmuel that he has no friends on his side of the fence and that Shmuel has dozens of friends that he gets to play with for hours every day. This quote shows how young and innocent Bruno was that he thought that the people in the concentration camps were wearing pajamas. Bruno has no idea that it was a death camp. Shmuel innocence also is shown in chapter eighteen “papa,” said Shmuel “we can’t find him he’s lost”, this is what Shmuel thinks when his father is missing, Shmuel doesn't really understand where his father is and that his father was killed in the gas chamber. In today's society young children like Bruno and Shmuel don't know anything else but fun and playing games. The lesson that can be learned by this is that hate and prejudice are learned as we grow up. …show more content…

Bruno and Shmuel may be best friends but fear can stop anyone from doing the right thing. All middle school students should learn that if you see someone being bullied, the right thing to do is to help the person that is being bullied, but fear can stop us from doing the right thing and most people would watch it happen or walk away like they didn't see anything.
