A hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. In the book Everlost by Neal Shusterman the hero is a young girl named Allie. Allie shows many of the common characteristics of an archetypal hero. Although Allie may not have all of the characteristics, she has most of the important ones. Allie from the book Everlost is an example of an archetypal hero.This is shown by Allie having many of the 8 characteristics of a typical hero.

During the start of the story, it is clear that Allie lives elsewhere and that she gets help from others. This all helps to show how much of an archetypal hero she is. Right at the beginning of the book the two main characters Nick and Allie meet when they both get into a car crash and are sent into Everlost. Everlost is a somewhat in between world where you are not completely alive or not completely dead. Soon after Nick and Allie meet Mary Allie notices that there is something weird about the kids that live in the tower. This springs Allie into action to try and figure out why the kids are in an endless loop routine. Allie starts noticing the Mary Hightower might not be who she claims to be. “The kids seemed to do whatever Mary said. 94” Allie wants to figure out how the world of Everlost works without only listening to Mary. So she wants to learn how to skin jack but that is something that Mary says to never do. Allie knows that none of Mary's kids would want to teach her so she has to go to the infamous “Haunter”. When she meets up with the Haunter she realizes this would take too much time to learn so she try's to back out of it. The Haunter doesn't want Allie to back out so he takes Nick and Leif hostage and won't let them out of pickling barrels. Now Allie makes it her life mission to get her friends back no matter what it
