In history, there have been many instances where the small choices that were made by everyday people have had a huge effect on their physical and mental surroundings. In the book Everybody Leaves, Wendy Guerra shows us how The smallest changes have the greatest physical, emotional, and social impact on people. In Everyone Leaves, the main character, Nieve, has had major changes in her surroundings due to small incidents. In the book it says,”The verdict came down two hours later. For the next three years, I have to live with my father and his theater group up in the Escambray mountain range, far from the sea and the lagoon. Far from my mother and, of course, Fausto”(24). In the book it says,“I opened it and, without hesitation, I lent her the first of the three books that my mom has. I explained that if we got caught, we could wind up in jail”(144). They are in danger of going to jail just because they have possession of a book. “I’m afraid my mother will go off to war. I’d like to get terribly sick, perhaps with something incurable, so that they don’t take her away….I will die if they take my mother away. I will die of sadness”(7). This relates because if Nieve’s mother goes off to war then her entire world would be turned upside down. She is even willing to risk her own safety and health to prevent her mother from going to war. In the book it also says,“I’m so afraid of my father, I can’t even talk. When I’m alone, I tell myself I’ll do it, but I can never pull it off in his presence. “(25) This shows how Nieve’s whole life had changed in just a couple of hours. She was taken away from her home and forced to go live with someone she is afraid
