Sometimes people express their feelings through music, poetry, or comedy. Through writing you can learn about yourself and your feelings. In the story Everyone Leaves by Wendy Guerra the main character Nieve, has a diary where she writes her thoughts and feelings to help her learn about her life.
Nieve writes in her diary about missing her loved ones. When her father gets custody of Nieve, she feels the pain of missing her mother. She writes in her diary, “I’m lonely. My mother doesn’t call. Is it that they don’t let her talk to me on the phone.” (pp 29). Therefore Nieve writes in her diary of the pain of missing her mother. When her stepfather, Fausto, must leave she misses him and tells her diary that, “ mom told me that Fausto was suddenly ordered to leave for Sweden,” (pp 88). Her father does not give her food. Nieve writes in her diary about how her father punished her while living with him. She makes sure that she records everything in her diary. She wrote, “My father sniffed the food and threw it down the toilet. He flushed and laughed at me.” (pp 46). Nieve’s father punishes her when she does nothing bad at her father’s house. She puts in her diary that, “He hit me on the head, hard, with his belt buckle,” (pp 41). Her father likes to abuse her in everyway. This upsets her, so she writes her feelings in her diary. The story Everyone Leaves by Wendy Guerra is about the main character who is named Nieve. She endures a life of pain and sorrows and uses her diary for recording problems in her life. Writing in her diary helps her get through the struggle of leaving her mother to live with her father. It also helps her see the cause and effect of her step-father leaving.
