Firstly, EBP concept requires clinicians to formulate a clinical question. Using the PICO approach, which stand for patient, population, problem, intervention and outcome. A clinical question based on the case study would be developed. Applying the PICO formula, the question from the case study can be, what is the best practice for nurses to obtain accurate blood pressure in paediatrics between auscultating calf blood pressure and oscillometric blood pressure? Clinical questioning allows nurses and other clinicians to understand the best rational best practice behind the care they give to patients. For example, in the case study the rationale behind the nurses’ decision to use an oscillatory blood pressure did not apply the EBP principles. According to Schmidt and Brown (2009) historically nurses have used different source of evidence but lacked insight to question the ration behind the practices.
