A very long time ago whales used to be land animals (pre whales). To survive they needed to move into the water because their environment changed and they needed food to survive.

But it wasn't like they could move into the water after one night or even a year. No, it takes time. Generation by generation. There would be pre whales with mutation (successive genes) that made them for example: hold their breath longer. Than they could go in the water and get their food.
Those pre whales would then mate and pass those mutations

1. Vestigial Features:
Certain organs or parts of organisms that becomes more basic in structure and have lower size and function during the evolution of the species.
An example of a vestigial feature is whale back flipper. When pre whales started to evolve their hind leg became smaller and smaller and if you look at the picture of whales evolving you can see that they have a very small back flipper. The bones in the back flippers looks like fingers or in this case toes because it’s the hind leg that has become smaller and unusable. And that is a vestigial features. Something that used to be use but no longer is and then becomes smaller and sometimes disappears.
This is a evidence because it provides evidence of genes for structures that are there but not because they are useful, but because they were once useful to an ancestor. Living organisms, including humans, has organs that were once functional, but isn’t anymore. They are either useless or have reduced function.
