Introduction Dinosaur is the name given to prehistoric that lived on the earth for about 160 million years. Although dinosaurs were not lizards, the word dinosaur comes from the term Dinosauria, which means terrible lizards. Most dinosaurs were not very terrible either. These animals have been extinct for over 65 million years, but they have fascinated people for the last two centuries. Dinosaurs came to Existence for us Dinosaurs were the first creatures but not the first one to be known. Before the 1800 nobody knew them as dinosaurs. If they find a bone that would simply assume it is a lizard. Around 1818, an English scholar, William Buckland found a large lower jaw that contained a number of sharp teeth. He had been studying animal fossils for over three years and he had never seen a bone like this. After few years of research he came to the conclusion that it would look like a large lizard. He then decided to call this creature Megalosaurus which actually meant large lizard. Around this time an English naturalist named Mary Ann Mantel found a large tooth stuck in the rocks while hiking. She and her husband decided it must been an Iguana's tooth. They decided to call it Iguanodon. Therefore the Megalosaurus and the Iguanodon were the first dinosaurs to be named. …show more content…
Based on the information that our scientists collected dinosaurs ruled our world for 150 million years. Though dinosaurs weren't the only creature at that time they had dominance over our land. They were the biggest meanest creatures at that time. The only other creature that we know was alive that time were lizards. Lizards were helpless against dinosaurs.
