Chapter 1– Questions 1-5 While studying at Cambridge, Charles spent most of his first 2 years exploring the forest in hopes of finding rare beetles to collect. John Stevens Henslow also took him under his wing and inspired him to travel. While reading the Henslow suggested Personal Narrative by Alexander Von Humboldt, Charles started thinking about all of the places in South and Central America that Humboldt had traveled to. Henslow setup geological training with Reverend Professor Adam Sedgwick when Charles expressed interest in going to the Canary Islands. That was when He developed his love and skill for geology. Charles had discovered a bed of modern shells and fossils at 1,300 feet above sea level. This discovery proved that this fossil was the bipedal middle between an ape and human. Chapter 5– Questions 1-4 Roy was explorative, and passionate about nature at a young age. He loved to fish, hunt and camp, and had his heart set on being a naturalist and explorer. These characteristics made him perfectly capable to be a skilled explorer. Roy's exploration consisted of reconstructing the plateau of Central Asia (geology, vegetation, past climate, and fossils). It would also deal with collecting living reptiles, birds, fish, mammals, plants, and exploring uncharted lands. Due to the explorations wide range of aspects, many jobs would be needed including a geologist and herpetologist. Before the dinosaur eggs had been discovered, it was unclear whether or not dinosaurs laid eggs. Once they were, there was no doubt that dinosaurs were egg laying. The discovery of this mammal was proof that mammals had lived alongside the dinosaurs. It gave scientist a small glimpse into ancient mammal species. Chapter 6– Questions
