Mission Statement This year I will strive for balance. I will work hard to obtain 7 distinctions as well as spend time with family and friends. I will channel positivity into everything I do and take on each obstacle with an open-mind. Stay determined. With the correct amount of effort, being accepted into medical school and becoming a doctor can become a reality. Personal Philosophy My personal philosophy, or the motto I live my life by, is to follow my heart and intuition. I must do what I want and this can only be done if I trust my instincts. I strive to live my dream and not anybody else’s. I have learnt to not think too much because I’ll think my whole life away. Now, I just stop, close my eyes and listen to my heart because I know …show more content…
By stopping and taking a step back to look at my responsibilities, I am able to see where I intend to go and what I must do to get there. Ambition goes hand-in-hand with mindfulness. It allows me to make my dreams a reality by working hard and doing whatever it takes. Jim Carrey- famous actor and comedian- dropped out of school at the age of 15 to support his family. The family went from “lower middle class to poor” and Jim eventually had to live in a crowded van. Through all of this, Jim strived for a better life. He dreamed of a better life and finally made it reality. His ambition and determination has lead him to become known as one of the best comedic actors of the era. His story has given me inspiration to never let hope die; anything is possible! I also value growth. All humans are fallible and capable of making mistakes; nobody is perfect, however, all humans are able to change and grow from their experiences and I admire this ability- to accept responsibility, learn from it and then change. A person who perfectly encapsulated the definition of growing and bettering one’s self and someone who taught me so much was my grandfather. After countless unsuccessful businesses, he was finally able to set up a business that strived for many years. My grandfather chose to learn from his mistakes and channel his sadness and agitation into ‘one more’ attempt rather than giving up and admitting failure. He has taught me …show more content…
I am so grateful that I am able to attend a Jewish day school and that I can interact with teenagers who have similar backgrounds and share similar beliefs to me. One of my main beliefs is the power of prayer. Every night, before I go to sleep, I say the Shema. This is a very special, spiritual time for me where I can concentrate only on connecting with H’shem and asking him for whatever I want- to keep my family safe, to heal a sick person or simply for an ‘A’ on my maths test. It is also a time to pay gratitude to all the goodness in my life and the countless blessings. The one thing I adore about Judaism is the community. I cannot put into words how unbelievable it is. No matter where you live in the world, be it Israel, South Africa or even China, I believe there is a strong bond and connection that no other religion has. This example, I trust, will prove what I cannot say nor describe. Max Steinberg was an American soldier fighting in the Israeli army. Max was tragically killed during Operation Protective Edge in 2014 after less than a year in the elite army. His parents were worried that they would not be able to form a ‘minyan’ at the cemetery because they did not know anyone in Israel- they were extremely wrong! The day of the funeral, 30 000 people came to say their final goodbyes to Max Steinberg. People who Max nor the family had ever met. This just shows the unbelievable sense of community and unity that Judaism is all
