BACKGROUND Knowing the background of the job of interest not only provides an upper hand but an idea of what type of atmosphere it has been throughout the years. Knowing the history, key individuals, purpose statement and values, and mission statements can sometimes persuade applicants to apply for a job with the institution. Encountering this information has become much easier with the use of the internet and search engines. History “Texas A&M University and Prairie View A&M University were first founded as land-grant colleges in 1876,” years later the A&M system was established in 1948 by the Texas Legislature. Today, the Texas A&M system counts with “11 universities and seven state agencies” that strive for academic and intellectual excellence. …show more content…

On one is intended to be for the University itself as part of an educational branch and the second mission statement to be for the University system in general. First mission statement for the educational branch is “Its mission of providing the highest quality undergraduate and graduate programs is inseparable from its mission of developing new understandings through research and creativity. Being aware of where the institution of choice is standing with the public can make a difference when adding it on a resume, because if the company is going through a bad period it may tarnish their employees opportunity of getting a job in a new place, depending on the situation.
