The Outsiders “Things are rough all over” (Hinton 35). Is what Cherry Valance said to describe both situations of the Greasers and the Socs. The book The Outsiders was a story of a boy named Ponyboy Curtis who had been going through a rough time because his parents had just died in accident. A metaphor is a forthright correlation between two dissimilar things. A metaphor is used to say one thing while meaning another to symbolize the true meaning. In the story “The Skating Party” Merna Summers uses the metaphor “I’m not going to be your window blind” (195), this is a good metaphor because window
“The Metaphor,” by Budge Wilson, is a short story about a young girl, Charlotte, coming of age. It begins with Charlotte as a seventh grader stuck between the two poles of her life: her teacher and mother. During the course of this bildungsroman, there are many techniques the author uses to strengthen and amplify its theme of growing up. Through the use of motif, juxtaposition, and symbolism, the reader is aware of the protagonist’s growth. In the story, the most potent motif is the metaphor.
To begin, Emerson makes effective use of figurative language such as personification while emphasizing his comparison of nature and the attributes of man. He also uses paradox and with this he accentuates the idea that nature provides wisdom. However, the wisdom it furnishes can only answer so much and we will never fully be reassured of all of which we would like to know. Its infinite knowledge will never fully guide us to that of which we seek. Emerson’s use of paradox allows the audience to contradict the truth and that of what they already believe.

As our final assignment for cornerstone we were tasked with revising our rhetorical analysis. I received a B, 81%, and by the end of my revisions have “A” quality work. During recent assignments and papers for other classes I realized the thesis was one of the first few sentences in the paper. As I was reading my paper I noticed that the purpose of the author writing this wasn 't until almost halfway into the first paragraph.
In the article, “Some Teens Start College Work Early Via Dual Enrollment” written by Joanne Jacobs, from the U.S. News and World Report Education, discussed a current path that most high schoolers are taking that will lead them to college success. Jacobs uses ethos and logos to prove the successfulness of the Dual Enrollment Program. The program offers students the opportunity to experience college life, to gain both high school and college credit, and to gain confidence. In most states, high school students who want to take a college class need to attend the class in a community college with regular undergraduates.
Russel argues that the high accessibility smartphones contribute is a positive attribute for the advancement of communication, deep attachments and large amounts of time spent on smartphones argues otherwise . The author argues smartphones are so readily available to people, that gives them the freedom to communicate at any time, initiating more conversations. Although that may be true smartphone users are now constant dependency on their phones to connect them with their wide-ranging social network prohibiting them from focusing tasks in the moment Written in 2005 smartphones were a very recent phenomenon . Paul Hunter, a foreign correspondent with CBC’s The National made several key points on ethical and legal challenges that we may face throughout our journalism careers. The first key point was regarding the way we approach subjects. About a week into his job at CBC, Hunter was faced with the task of calling a family that had been involved in a bus crash, and exploiting their story for television ratings.
There are 3,418,059,380 women in the world (Geohive.com, 2015) and yet, women, in 2010, got paid a staggering 19% difference in wage on a universal standpoint (Economist, 2011). Such contributing factors as this (wage), has created an overwhelming notion of gender inequality leading to such things as segregation in the workforce across the globe. Ethos is universally known as the ethical appeal, convincing one of a person’s character (Courses.durhamtech.edu, 2015). The staggering numbers of economic contributions of women compared to men has however, highlighted that there are fewer women to men ratios in the workforce due to the where we live, maternal implications (pregnancies), upbringing and education.
Many folks of the Hispanic race were appalled on several misunderstood speeches I have made. My intentions were not to target anyone in specific knowing the more people on my side the better outcome in the Presidential election. There have been articles about me that I have manipulated bankruptcy laws to enrich myself, also racial comments made. In other hand people have made accusations that I am untrustworthy. I need to apologize for the mistakes said or done as well for the miscommunication I gave to the citizens of the United States.
While creating my rhetorical analysis paper I used all of my typical writing processes. I began this assignment by selecting a commercial that I thought would be the most appealing in the superbowl. After selecting my commercial I did some research at the library using EBSCOhost. I then created an outline on what my paper would be about and pieced all of its parts together. In the future I will try to recieve help earlier on because at first I struggled to understand what the purpose of the paper was.
Nature is a beautiful component of planet earth which most of us are fortunate to experience; Ralph Waldo Emerson writes about his passion towards the great outdoors in a passage called Nature. Emerson employs metaphors and analogies to portray his emotions towards nature. Emerson begins by writing, “Our age is retrospective. It builds the sepulchres of the fathers.” , this is a metaphor for how we think; all our knowledge is based on what is recorded in the olden days and a majority of our experiences are vicarious instead of firsthand encounters.
Persuasion makes it’s way into almost every communication event I can think of. Either I’m trying to persuade someone or they are trying to persuade me. My dad was a connoisseur in the art of rhetoric. I observed him manipulate the english language to his benefit on many occasions.
