The concept of punishment has recently demonstrated the lack of efforts to restore offenders and felons. Without the potential risks and the actual practice of punishment, the aim of social order can hardly be reached. Moreover, it is unfair to expect victims of illegal actions to cover the cost of their victimization. The current retributive justice system concentrates on punishment as the state where the victims of criminal acts and prisoners are considered in passive roles. Thus, the paper reviews the concepts developed within the punishment philosophy. Thus, there are five major purposes to the punishment: incapacitation, deterrence, restitution, retribution, restoration. The aim of the paper is to define and describe the most efficient concept within the frames of the modern society. Consequently, the paper seeks to answer the question: Which of the above-mentioned punishment concepts can satisfy the current needs of the society? Why restoration is considered the best method on the way to the behavioral corrections? Thus, the current paper will discover and deliver the information on the effectiveness of the chosen punishment concept to the society and the justification system.
