Intentional or not, sexism seems to be present in many movies, merely for entertainment purposes and is not limited to a specific genre. In fact, sexism is becoming somewhat trendy in that it creates the foundation for a good movie. For example; the movie “Where the Heart is,” is about a teenager who gets pregnant by her boyfriend. The boy ends up ditching her at the local Walmart, which is where she eventually delivers her baby. Giving off the message that girls make careless decisions because they are blinded by the idea of love and wind-up getting pregnant. Then they are left alone to raise the new born baby by herself, who lives the next 6 years struggling to make ends meet. On the other hand, the guy is depicted as this selfish human being who is getting what he wants and then leaves. He continues to live a carefree life, partying and having fun without any regrets. The leading lady is hard working, has a successful career, organized, sticking to a very specific plan and rarely deviating. One night she goes out with a friend, had too much to drink, and sleeps with a random stranger and winds-up pregnant. The guys she sleeps with is the complete opposite of her, he does not have a job, lives with a roommate, and spends his days making video games and doing drugs. The guy is very lovable, kind and has all the characteristics she would never be attracted to. She views herself as better or above him, which eventually becomes evident to him. In this movie, the woman is represented as being stuck-up, thinking she is better than him. As a result, she is unable to see how great of a guy he is. The man is portrayed as a dead-beat, which will never amount to anything because he has no aspirations. Hence, both characters are molded to fit the prejudices of society
