In Gail Giles’ “Shattering Glass,” a group of boys work together to make a fat, but smart, Simon Glass liked all around campus. Rob (control freak), Young, (intellectual), Coop (athletic jock), and Bob (smack talker) do all sorts of things to help Glass get nominated and ultimately win the title of senior class favorite. These kids go through different struggles to get Simon where he is at right now. Most of the boys are malignant; they cause harm and distress to the people around them, and even though the boys did not expect for things to end the way they did, Simon dies. In the novel, it reinforces the guy stereotype of guys using girls just for no reason.
Martin Luther King Jr. wrote to his fellow clergymen and supporters as “A Call for Unity” as he sat in a jail cell in Birmingham, Alabama. King had been placed under arrest due to participating in a peaceful march against segregation on property that he did not have permission to be on. During this time, in the 1960’s, the Southern part of the United States was ruled under the Jim Crow Laws which enforced legal segregation throughout the region. Fatal Flaws Write a Fate to Failure Nobody is perfect. Everybody has their own special flaw whether it be mental, physical, emotional, or part of their personality. However some character flaws can definitely cause more harm than others.
Sometimes those flaws can be their downfall. For many, a major downfall is the inability to let go. In “Helen on Eighty-Sixth Street,” the character's flaw was her inability to let go of her hatred for Helen. In “The Cask of Amontillado,” the character’s flaw was his inability to let go of an insult. In “The Scarlet Ibis,” the character’s flaw was his inability to let go of the idea of a normal brother.”
Creon is the best example that fits this definition. His tragic flaw is his excessive pride and stubbornness, which leads him to reject the advice of others,while it's very easy to find the flaws in Creon. Creon is still a sympathetic character,
Tragic heroes have similar traits and share many qualities. Almost every tragic hero has a fatal flaw that ultimately leads to their downfall. Antigone’s Creon and Star Wars’ Anakin Skywalker fit perfectly into this mold. There is no greater consequence of the tragic heroes’ fatal flaw than causing death or pain to those that they love the most; Anakin and Creon are both guilty of this.
In the Ancient Greek tradition, a tragedy includes Hamartia which is, Peripeteia, Nemesis and Hubris. Hamartia is the hero’s tragic flaws. Peripeteia is when the hero has a reversal of their fate, nemesis is the consequences of the hero’s actions and hubris is an overwhelming pride. An example of a tragic hero would be Walter White from Breaking Bad. Walter White goes from loving family man to a drug kingpin in a short couple of years, showing his ultimate undoing and demise.

In Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, Okonkwo’s fate as a tragic hero to an extent is greatly true as he portrays hamartia, a fatal flaw, and hubris, excessive pride. Even though the author describes Okonkwo as a hardworking, African farmer, it contradicts his rash decisions following numerous events. Therefore, Okonkwo’s tragedy is true as his fear of weakness and excessive pride lead him to his downfall. Even though Achebe sets Okonkwo to his downfall, it is evident that Okonkwo is a great hero despite his rash behavior and temper.
