• Guideline 1: Psychologists recognize girls’ and women’s strengths and resilience and work to honor and cultivate these o The purpose of this guideline is for psychologists to be reminded and to acknowledge that women and girls face adversity and trauma, but they are also strong and resilient. This is important because it gives psychologists a guideline for how to treat female patients and cater to their strengths rather than point out their weaknesses. Guideline #1 shows different ways that psychologists can encourage women by reminding they’re of their strengths. For example, psychologists are informed to view the emotions of girls and women, such as anger and resentment, are signs of resiliency, especially in trauma cases. Psychologists are also meant to look at the strength it took to seek treatment, especially with women who are in the non-majority or from marginalized communities and backgrounds. I believe this guideline is important because it allows psychologists to expand their knowledge about multiple aspects of women’s and girls’ lives that could impact their prior beliefs about women, such as race, sexual orientation, age, disabilities, etc. This guideline acknowledges the importance of gender sensitivity training and diversity training in psychologists continuing education. Guideline #5 is important for psychologists to acknowledge their biases and allows them to continue educating themselves on many topics to treat patients in the most effective way
