Cloning to Save a Species For centuries, there has always been a strong fascination with science and the countless things it can offer. One of the most popular topics is cloning, animal and human. However, many proponents of cloning do not take the consequences or risks of cloning into consideration. Some people do think about the possible outcomes of cloning but they are not realistic. Some people even considered cloning to be so outrageous that it was impossible and that former clones were simply frauds. Cloning should not be permitted because it is majorly useless. Cloning is unsuccessful. Although there have been successes, very few at that, there are hundreds of trials and failed clones behind them. One of the most famous clones took …show more content…
For extinct animals, the environments have changed either quite vastly or have gone through minor changes. If these animals are brought back, there is no way of telling if they can survive in the environment they once lived in. Not only this, but brining extinct or a large number of endangered animals back could impact other animals, humans, and the environment. They could destroy the environment or bring back diseases which, in result, could endanger other species or even cause them to become extinct. Also, these animals could be extinct or endangered for a valid reason. If they were not fit to survive, there is virtually no purpose through going through the difficulty of cloning them for them to simply die out again. There is also the possibility that, as Mara Grunbaum said, “if scientists can bring extinct animals back, no one will care about keeping endangered species from becoming extinct in the first place”( ). This would be detrimental to the endangered species and the mindsets of the common …show more content…
One of the reasons people support cloning to bring back endangered or extinct species is because of guilt. They believe that because, in the past, human beings hunted animals and ruined their habitats they are responsible for trying to reverse this damage and that these animals deserve to be brought back. They believe that they “have a moral responsibility” to undo actions that have been done ( ). Another reason why people believe extinct animals or endangered animals should be cloned is that they believe it will help the environment. People support the attempt to clone the long extinct wooly mammoth because they believe it will help improve the arctic ecosystem. These people also argue that science has greatly improved over the years and that the risks of cloning and health problems in living clones have been significantly
