Finding Justification for Injustice What politician hasn’t used religion as an unwavering piece of justification in an argument? All throughout history, politicians have used religion countless times to justify behavior or simply to avoid unflattering questions. Authors and characters are guilty of this as well. “The Crucible” and “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God” include evidence that individuals use religion as justification to prey on other’s fears and insecurities, to use as evidence to explain an occurrence or phenomenon, or to pass judgement on another person because Miller wishes to shed light on the manipulation of ideas and religion, and Edwards wishes to persuade his audience through these tactics.

Josh is a boy that has seen or felt more than a boy his age should see or feel, like starvation and living off so little. No Promise In The Wind is a book that was written by Irene Hunt, this is a book about Josh and Joey leaving Chicago and trying to make a living somewhere else. They have cheated death, but they still managed to get jobs for both of themselves and stayed alive. The topic of my essay is that in this book, many characters are influential but one sticks out the most. Josh Growdowski is most influenced by Lonnie because Lonnie gave josh and joey a long ride to get josh a job, he cared for them, fed them, and helped josh when he was very sick.
An example of this can be found in Document 1, a record of Domingos Fernandes Nobre's confession at his Inquisition trial, in which he stated that he practiced native customs and their heathen ways, partaking in their religious rituals. The purpose of the document was to show a confession at an Inquisition trial, which was not meant to be heard by the public, but rather remain as a record for the government or court, most likely; in addition, Domingos Fernandes Nobre had no reason to lie about doing unfaithful things since these actions were punishable by death during the time of the Inquisition, therefore making this account accurate and truthful. Continuing on, many of those found guilty during the Inquisition were tortured or punished making actions like Domingos Fernandes Nobre something to be avoided. Although Domingos was truthful, submitting himself to the punishment that was to come for his “sins,” his trial shows the extent to which the Church was willing to go to encourage people to convert, yet still fail to do so. Thus, Christianity didn’t reach some of the indigenous who attempted to continue their own “heathen ways” in secret.
