Heroes are a common part of our society, every country has its own hero who has done good for the people. However, there are many different opinions about what a hero is. Annabeth Chase and Hermione Granger are two fictional characters who are considered by many people as heroes. This essay will look at what a hero is using the example of Annabeth Chase and Hermione Granger as modern day heroes.

What is a Hero:
A hero is someone who is courageous and thinks about others before himself. First of all, a hero is kind. They are always humble to people around them and work for their benefit. Secondly, a hero is selfless. They help to improve peoples lives and not in order to attain material rewards. Also they think about others before themselves. Lastly, a hero always helps people in need whether it involves saving or improving their lives for example, by saving them from hunger and abuse.

Annabeth Chase is a Greek demigod and the daughter of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and battle strategy. Given her moms abilities she is extremely intelligent, wise and clever. When she was a small girl her mother abandoned her and she had to flee her fathers house because she was disliked by her stepmother (“Biography for Annabeth”, 2010). Annabeth travelled to camp half blood, which is a safe haven for demigods, with her two demigod friends Thalia Grace, daughter of Zeus, and Luke the son of Hermes.
