Parental neglect causes a multitude of developmental hurdles, primarily aggression, as seen through the Creature. This is due to the Creature being neglected and rejected by Victor, starting at his creation. The parental abandonment and negligence of the Creature caused increased aggression and behavioral issues, such as the killing of innocents and more. Through Attachment Theory, it can be interpreted that Victor and the Creature have an insecure avoidant attachment type. This is an explanation of the creature’s behavior after being abandoned. After being abandoned by Victor, Victor is still the only one who will speak to and not fear the Creature, so despite his hatred, he is the only person who can truly accept the creature. It is also important to look at Victor’s own attachment to his parents as a reason for the type of attachment he formed with the creature. “ Alphonse’s inability to sympathize with Victor demonstrates a further characteristic of avoidant attachment: a lack of affection. Jones et al. acknowledge that ‘[avoidance reflects a tendency to deactivate the attachment system and is characterized by discomfort with intimacy, dependency, and emotional disclosure in close relationships.’ Victor develops an avoidant attachment since his parents do not display warmth or affection toward him.” (Source 5) It can be inferred that Victor formed the same relationship with the Creature because of how he was raised; he was rejected by his father throughout his childhood, so Victor is just reflecting the behavior that was inflicted upon
