Atticus has been characterised as courageous in "To Kill a Mockingbird" through the use of an allusion and foreshadowing. Courage is the choice and willingness to confront pain, danger or uncertainty, and throughout the novel, Atticus' courage is conveyed through both his words and his actions. During Chapter 9, Jack and Atticus discuss the upcoming trial of Tom Robinson.
