The Oklahoma City Bombing On April 19, 1995, a man named Timothy James McVeigh had planned to bomb the federal building in Oklahoma City in order to prove a point. He believed that what he did was a protest against the government and felt no remorse for his actions. McVeigh wasn't the only suspect who was a part of this attack. Two other men named Nichols and Fortier were also guilty of this crime. The three men wanted to show the government that ATF violated their rights which threatened them. McVeigh was a former soldier who served in the army with the two other men named Terry Nichols and Michael Fortier. Murrah building in Oklahoma.The bomb damaged things around it like cars and nearby buildings and it killed 168 people,19 children and injured 500 people. Hours after the bombing the media were assuming that Arab terrorists were responsible for devastation and one news channel blamed four innocent Arab Americans for the bombing (Sonia,Benson 2). The next few days Muslims all over the the United States were harassed and beaten because of an assumption that people made but the suspects were neither Arab or Muslim. On December 23,1997 a federal jury in Denver convicted Nichols of conspiracy and involuntary manslaughter and McVeigh was sentenced to death and never showed any remorse for his actions. About six weeks after the bombing the remains of the altered Murray building were razed.The sight was grassed over to remove the most visible scar of the deadly incident and became a gathering point for victims and sympathizers.
